Abstract
Introduction

Metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is a major public health challenge, with a significant impact on morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study investigated the demographic, clinical, and molecular features of mCRC in an Algerian population to improve the understanding of this disease and inform tailored management strategies.
Methods
A comprehensive analysis was conducted on 77 patients diagnosed with mCRC at the Anti-Cancer Centre of Sidi Bel Abbes, Algeria, between 2018 and 2021.
Results
The mean age of the patients was 59 years, and the majority (79%) were over 50 years old. Hepatic metastasis was the most common site of metastasis, followed by pulmonary metastasis, bone metastasis, lymph node metastasis, and peritoneal metastasis. Colon cancer was the primary site in more than half of the patients. Personal medical history was prevalent, with over half of the patients reporting comorbidities, including hypertension and diabetes. Additionally, nearly half of the patients had a family history of cancer. KRAS mutation status was available for 47 patients, with over half exhibiting KRAS mutations. Adenocarcinoma was the predominant histological subtype, and most of the tumors were well-differentiated. Common clinical symptoms at presentation included asthenia, weight loss, anorexia, and pain. Treatment modalities included chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
Conclusion
The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the demographic, clinical, and molecular characteristics of mCRC in the Algerian population.
